It is known that Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives after the economic crisis in the country. He along with his wife and two security officials reached Maldives today early in the morning. Reportedly, he took a military jet for fleeing. It has been reported that India has supported Gotabaya to flee from the country. But India has denied those reports.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe took charge as the acting President and this further triggered protests. Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office declared an emergency and curfew with immediate effect but soon rolled back stating that the measures will be announced soon. On the other hand, Maldives people are not happy with the news that the nation is providing sanctuary to Rajapaksa.
With the protests in the Maldives starting to increase, there are reports that Rajapaksa and his family have planned to fly to Singapore today night.
