The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the membership of Sri Lankan Cricket with immediate effect. The ICC released a statement on why the suspension happened in the first place. It stated that Sri Lankan Cricket has breached its obligations as a member, as the government has interfered in the Cricket affairs.

The ICC stated that the conditions for the suspension will be decided by the ICC board in due course. The ICC board will meet on November 21st again where the future course of action is decided.

With the decision, Sri Lanka can’t play cricket until further notice. Sri Lanka is scheduled to host the Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in January and February 2024. Sri Lankan Cricket is already in dire straits as they managed only 2 wins in 9 games losing 7. They stand at 8th place currently with still three league games to be played.
