Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been enthusiastic about Visakhapatnam. Recently, he declared it the state’s future, saying it will compete with major cities.
However, despite his optimism, Vizag hasn’t fully met expectations yet. Many industry leaders and politicians agree that its potential remains largely untapped.
Vizag is considered one of the better Tier-2 cities. It’s the largest, most cosmopolitan, and most developed city in Andhra Pradesh since Hyderabad went to Telangana in 2014. Although Vizag is an important economic hub and the state’s financial capital, it hasn’t reached the level of cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, or Ahmedabad.
Before bifurcation, Vizag was overshadowed by Hyderabad. Even after ten years, it hasn’t seen the expected growth. The plan to make it the executive capital faced legal issues, and its development has been slower than hoped.
Despite challenges in connectivity and talent retention, Vizag has seen increased investment since bifurcation, but there’s still progress to be made.
