India successfully defended 190 to secure a win in the first T20 which looked promising at the beginning but rather ended up as a one-sided game. Losing the toss, India batted first. Suryakumar Yadav got paired up with Rohit Sharma for the opening. They gave a good start by scoring 40 in just 4 overs but after the first wicket, the middle order had a mini-collapse. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya got out for low scores.

Rohit Sharma scored 64 in 44 balls and thus became the leading runscorer in the T20s. At the end of 18 overs, India was at 150 and is looking for 170 which is clearly an under-par score. But Dinesh Karthik assured that the team had a strong finish. He scored 21 runs in the 19th over. Ashwin supported him well. As a result, India scored 190 runs by the end of the innings.

In reply, West Indies started on a strong note. They started the innings well. But the introduction of spinners hampered their flow. WI batsman clearly struggled against the spinners. As a result, India managed a massive win by 68 runs.
