The Pithapuram constituency in Andhra Pradesh has attracted attention due to Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan contesting from there. Pawa Kalyan faced defeat in the 2019 elections from Gajuwaka and chose Pithapuram due to its large Kapu voter base, a dominant caste in the region.
His opponent, YSRC nominee Vanga Geetha Vishwanath, is a popular leader with significant support. She has a long political career and is known for being accessible and non-controversial.
The constituency traditionally elected Kapu leaders from TDP or Congress until recently. Support from S.V.S.N. Varma of TDP, who now supports Pawan Kalyan, has boosted the latter’s chances. The constituency has 84,000 Kapu voters, followed by Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Reddys.
Geetha’s development work and the ruling party’s backing suggest a tough competition for Pawan Kalyan in Pithapuram.
