Pat Cummins who is currently in Australia attending to his ill mother will miss the third test as well. Cummins was expected to return to India before the start of the Indore test. The third test will kickstart on March 1st. However, as his mother hasn’t recovered, Pat Cummins decided to stay back. His request was approved by the Australian Cricket Board.

“I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received from Cricket Australia and my teammates. Thanks for your understanding,” said Cummins in a statement.

Cricket Australia has named Steve Smith as the captain in the absence of Cummins. Mitchell Starc who missed the first two tests is going to be a replacement in the pacers’ quota. Australia is currently trailing the series 0-2 and if they lose the Indore test, then India will find a place in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy final.
