Mitchell Marsh has been officially named as Australia’s captain for the T20 World Cup 2024, leading a robust 15-member squad. The squad includes Ashton Agar and Cameron Green, who haven’t played in the T20 format for Australia since late 2022.

Notably, Steve Smith has been left out of the squad for the first time since 2014. Marsh expressed his honor in leading the team and hopes to continue their recent success in the upcoming tournament.

Selection chief George Bailey highlighted Agar’s return due to slow conditions expected in the Caribbean and praised Marsh’s recovery progress. Adam Zampa is the sole frontline spinner, supported by Glenn Maxwell and Agar. Green’s inclusion offers versatility to the squad, as he is capable of batting in the middle order.

The top order retains faith in David Warner and Travis Head, despite Warner’s hand injury causing discomfort. Bailey expressed confidence in Warner’s recovery.

Matthew Wade and Josh Inglis serve as wicketkeepers, and Nathan Ellis joins the pace attack. Several players, like Smith and Aaron Hardie, missed selection but could be reconsidered based on ICC regulations.

Australia’s campaign begins against Oman on June 6 in Barbados.
