Skanda movie review

Ram Pothineni and Boyapati Srinu have teamed up for the movie Skanda. The promos have indicated that the movie is a complete mass fest. Skanda’s promos suggested the same. The film was released today and let us check out the review.

Story:

The Chief Minister’s daughters of both the Telugu States were kidnapped by a person (Ram) which created a huge fuss. The entire political system gets disturbed resulting in a big war. Why does Ram takes such an extreme step? What are the consequences of it? What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Performances:

Definitely, this is Ram Pothineni’s massiest role. Ram has bulked up a lot and he is extremely rugged in the role. He is now Boyapati’s hero and has gone overboard many times. Ram adapted very well. He danced like a dream too.

Sree Leela is fabulous as the female lead. She impresses once again. She is a perfect commercial heroine who has glamorous appeal and dances very well which is evident in each song.

Other than these two, Srikanth has a meaty role and he is okay. There are many known faces in the film. Skanda is support-heavy film for sure. The rest of the actors did well.

Technical Aspects:

SS Thaman has gone overboard along with Boyapati Srinu. The BGM is too loud to bear. The songs are a big let down except for one or two. Boyapati Srinu etched out his own formulaic action entertainer. However, this time he couldn’t manage the emotional quotient properly like he does always. He carved out some of the mass scenes well but definitely some of them have gone overboard and at one point audiences couldn’t take it. The climax portions are stretched.

The Cinematography is decent. The editing could have been crispier as some of the sequences need trimming. The production values are rich.

Analysis:

Skanda is another typical Boyapati film. While the action part appeals to the masses, the emotional part wasn’t dealt well. The first half is decent, the interval block sets up the right tone. The second half goes wary at times. The climax is stretched out completely. Overall, Ram’s mass makeover, Sree Leela’s presence are the plus points along with a few action blocks. Mass movie loves can watch this flick for once.
