India on Sunday reported 335 fresh Coronavirus cases and five deaths. Four people succumbed to death in Kerala where one person breathed his last due to COVID in Uttar Pradesh. As per the Union Health Ministry data, the active COVID cases went up to 1,701. As per the data, India’s total caseload stands at 4.50 crore, the death toll at 5.33 lakh and more than 4.44 Crore people have recovered from the virus.

The health authorities have raised alarms and are also cautious about the new COVID variant JN.1. This variant is closely linked to the BA.2.86 variant and has been detected in 38 countries so far including India. The World Health Organization (WHO) is vigilant about the new variant and suggested the member states continue with strong surveillance and sequence sharing.

The global body’s COVID-19 technical lead, Maria Van Kerkhove stated that the rise in the COVID cases is because the virus is evolving. The symptoms of this new variant include fever, runny nose, sore throat, headache, and also mild gastrointestinal symptoms in some cases.
