India started its West Indies tour on a rather predictable note. It became quite a norm that India dominates West Indies in their home ground. In the last 12 years, West Indies haven’t won a series against India. In the first test, West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first but their happiness of winning the toss hasn’t lasted long. Though openers weathered the first hour, the early introduction of Ravichandran Ashwin reaped rewards. He sent both the openers to the pavilion. He varied pace brilliantly and troubled WI batters.

Apart from the discipline of Indian bowling, it can be said that the rash shots of WI have resulted in wickets. Having said that, West Indies were bundled out for a mere 150, thanks to Ashwin’s 5-fer. Jadeja picked three wickets and Shardul, and Siraj picked a wicket each.

In reply, India started their first innings quite confidently. The new pair Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal mixed caution with aggression and scored 80 by the end of the day’s play.
