It was one hell of an innings. He scored 201 in just 128 balls and the condition he was in was quite bad. There was no footwork because of the back spasm, there were no singles because of the cramps. Maxwell battled it all. Australia were in tatters when Maxwell walked in. The team was at 91/7 at one stage and was looking at a major defeat to Afghanistan.

But Maxwell stood before the defeat and fought with all he had got. He battled the physical condition he was in, battled the spirited Afghanistani attack, and took home Australia with more than three overs to spare. It was surreal and unreal to witness the match which will be one lifetime of an experience.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Ibrahim Zadran became the first Afghanistan batter to score a century in the World Cups. As a result, Afghan made 291 which seemed to be an above-par total but Maxwell had other plans.
