The US House speaker Nancy Pelosi met Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen after meeting the parliamentarians at the Legislative yuan in Taipei. The US House speaker read out a statement in which she said that the US remains committed to developing stronger ties between Washington and Taipei. “We will not abandon Taiwan. Our delegation came all the way through here to make this clear. The United States solidarity stays with Taiwan,” she said. Pelosi highlighted that there is bilateral support for Taiwan in the US.

After the meeting, she tweeted, “I led a Congressional delegation to Taiwan to make crystal clear that America stands with the people of Taiwan – and all those committed to Democracy and human rights.”

“Our delegation had the distinct privilege of meeting with the President of Taiwan @Iingwen today. We discussed how America & Taiwan can deepen our economic ties, further strengthen our security partnership & defend our shared democratic values,” Pelosi tweeted.
