Shinzo Abe after the shot was initially conscious and responsive. He then appeared to be in a state of cardiac arrest. He was immediately taken to a hospital.

A 41-year-old man who was suspected of carrying a gun was taken into custody. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno responded to the situation.
