Temples are not only limited to devotion but also carry out many service activities in society. A ministry formed under the name of the Devadaya Charity Department takes the donations received by the temples and the gifts offered by the devotees and conducts the service activities. Apart from this, some temples organize voluntary programs on behalf of the temple. Most of the programs like Annadanam are organized and the hunger of the poor is satisfied.

Sri Krishna Mandir in Sri Guruvayorappan Temple, which is under the Hindu American Temple and Culture Center in New Jersey, has taken steps to satisfy the hunger of the poor. The drive will continue from November 1st to November 18th under the name of ‘Diwali Food Drive’. As part of this, food donations will be collected. HATCC wants to join the fight against hunger by collecting and donating food items.

Seva International Central Jersey Chapter organizes local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens. Donations of long-shelf-life vegetarian items are sought. Organizers suggest that donations be placed in a specially designated box. They called upon the devotees to make this special drive a success. If donors come forward, steps are being taken to organize more service programs through the temple, the organizers said.
