The Supreme Court today dismissed the PIL regarding the registrations of the Live-in relationships. The petition was filed to direct the centre to set a frame of rules for the registration of Live-in relationships. While dismissing the plea, Justice DY Chandrachud termed it a hare-brained idea.

Lawyer Mamta Rani filed this petition in the Supreme Court last month citing an alleged increase in rape and murder crimes committed by live-in partners and had referred to the recent killing of Shraddha Walker. The three bench judge headed by Justice DY Chandrachud asked the petitioner whether she wanted the social security of the live-in partners or wanted them not to get into live-in at all.

“What kind of a hare-brained idea it is? What does the centre have to do with the registration of live-in relationships? It is high time the court starts imposing costs on petitioners who file these kinds of PILs. Dismissed,” the bench stated.
