Congress is going through a rough patch. The ship is sinking faster than the party. With Azad’s resignation, the count of the senior leaders quitting the party increased to three. Kapil Sibal and Ashwani Kumar have left the party as well. A couple of days back, Jaiveer Shergill announced quitting the party.

Today, Ghulam Nabi Azad tore into Rahul Gandhi and said that the seniors were purposefully sidelined. “the new coterie of inexperienced sycophants started running the affairs of the party,” he said in the resignation letter.

Following Azad’s resignation, five Jammu and Kashmir leaders left the party in solidarity with Ghulam Nabi Azad. Those J&K leaders who announced resignation from the party include GM Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, and Choudhary Mohd Akram.

GM Saroori said to the press: “We the 5 ex-MLAs (GM Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, and Choudhary Mohd Akram) are resigning from the Congress party in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Now, only the JKPC president will be left alone.”
