Cast: Nikhil Siddhartha, Iswarya Menon

Director: Garry BH

Producer: Charan Tej Uppalapati

Music: Vishal Chandrasekhar

Nikhil who is on a roll with Karthikeya 2 has gained a Pan-Indian image as well. With the same confidence, he released his latest movie Spy on a Pan-Indian level. Spy interestingly has Subhash Chandrabose’s subplot. Spy was released today and let us check out the review.

Story:

Jai (Nikhil) is a RAW agent based out in Sri Lanka. He gets a job to nab a terrorist named Khadir who was presumed to be dead but resurfaces again after a video is sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Is Jai successful in stopping Khadir from a nuclear attack on India? How does Subhash Chandra Bose’s plot link to the story?

Performances:

Nikhil gave an honest performance once again. It’s not that the role is challenging but Nikhil has given his best. He is suited well as a spy. Ishwarya Menon is okay in the brief role she was offered. Rana Daggubati appears in a cameo but the impact doesn’t give any high due to the characterization.

There are some notable names like Abhinav Gomatam, Makarand Deshpande, Sachin Khedekar, Posani Krishna Murali, Aryan Rajesh, Sanya Thakur, etc., but sadly none of them got any impactful role.

Technicalities:

The music and BGM by Vishal Chandrasekhar and Sricharan Pakala are surprisingly bad. None of the songs are memorable and the BGM doesn’t give any high. Vamshi Patchipulusu and Mark David’s cinematography is good. The visuals are better. The editing is crisp but that doesn’t add any value.

The main problem lies with the story and screenplay. The main subplot of Subhash Chandrabose which was promoted hugely doesn’t fit in. While the first half is okay with decent moments here and there, the second half is a complete letdown. Garry BH lets himself down with no proper screenplay. There are no highs or thrills which are mandatory for a spy thriller. Most part of the movie goes on a predictable note.

Analysis:

As said, Spy doesn’t live up to the spy thriller genre. There is no twist that we can’t predict. Subhash Chandrabose’s track gets completely diluted. While the first half is okay, the second half gets diluted completely. Overall, Spy ends up being a below-average affair despite Nikhil’s honest attempt.
