Good Luck Sakhi Movie Review

Keerthy Suresh after the stupendous Mahanati has signed plenty of women-centric films and none of them came close to that blockbuster. Now, another women-centric film from Keerthy Suresh was released after many hurdles and postponements. Good Luck Sakhi is a rural-based sports drama. Critically acclaimed Nagesh Kukunoor has directed it. Let us see how the movie is.

Story: Sakhi (Keerthy Suresh) has so much bad luck that nothing goes right in her life. At the same time, a retired Colonel (Jagapathi Babu) sets up a coaching camp in her village which was in the Ananthapur district. He wants to make local talents as sharpshooters and send them to the shooting championship.

He comes across Sakhi and she surprises him with her raw talent. Colonel decides to train her. What are the hurdles the duo faces in the process? What happens in the end forms the crux of the story.

Performances: Keerthy Suresh is a good actress. There is no doubt about that. In Good Luck Sakhi, we can witness sparks of her brilliance in some of the scenes. Her transformation from a village belle to a champion is showcased well. Her performance in emotional scenes is to be worthy of special mention.

Jagapathi Babu gets a meaty role in this movie and his role as a coach is well etched. Jagapathi babu too gives sincere effort. Aadi Pinisetty as Sakhi’s childhood buddy gets an extended cameo role and he is okay. Rahul Ramakrishna plays a role with negative shades. He is alright. The rest of the cast is fine.

Technicalities: Technically, Good Luck Sakhi gives a mixed feeling. Nagesh Kukunoor is a well critically acclaimed director. His works are highly spoken of. However, he surprises us with a bland narration of Good Luck Sakhi. Though his idea is fine, the problem is with the narration. The narration has no highs and lows. It goes plainly. It doesn’t engage us either.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is alright. Few situational songs impress us. His background music impresses in a few scenes. The cinematography by Chirantan Das is good. He gives the required authentic feel for a rural drama. Editing is fine. The run time is one of the very few positives in the film. Sound mixing needs major corrections as audiences couldn’t get the dialogues correctly. Production values are just okay.

Analysis: Good Luck Sakhi hasn’t got much buzz as it has been postponed many times. The entire story has been narrated in the trailer and there is nothing much more than that in the movie either. It is rather shocking to see a talented filmmaker like Nagesh Kukunoor comes up with such a product. The film has nothing new to offer. It is not impressive either. Good Luck Sakhi is surprisingly bad.

Rating: 2.5/5
