Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has announced an increase in the electricity rates today. Across various slabs, the increase in the power charges varies from 45 paise to Rs 1.57. Most of the consumers in the state are in the 76-125 and 126-225 units’ slabs and the power charges hikes are maximum for them.

For the 0-30 unit slab, 45 paise has been increased. The previous charges are Rs. 1.45 per unit but now it will be increased to Rs. 1.90. Similarly, in the 31-75 unit slab, the unit charges will be increased from Rs. 2.09 per unit to Rs. 3.00 per unit with an increase of 91 paise.

In the 76-125 unit range, the surge is Rs. 1.40, the new rate per unit will be Rs. 4.50 when compared to the previous Rs. 3.10. 126-225 slab range has been increased by Rs. 1.57. With this, the unit per rate in this slab has increased from Rs. 4.43 to Rs.6.00.

For the 226-400 unit range, with an increase of Rs. 1.16 per unit, the new charge will be Rs. 8.75, previously it was Rs. 7.59. For the slab above 400 units, the increase in the charge is Rs. 0.55, which means the charge will now be Rs. 9.45 per unit.

APERC chairman Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy has announced the hike and revealed that as the discoms were running in losses, increase in charges and they have no option.
