Here’s the good news for those who applied for American visas. The United States has decided to cancel interviews for some select categories of visas till December 31 this year. To this extent, the US State Department has issued an advisory to consular officers. This exemption will also apply to academic J visa applicants as well as those applying for F, H-1, H-3, H-4, non-blanket L, M, O, P, and Q visas.
However, for those who wish to apply for the visa appointment; their wait gets longer. The United States authorities stated that there will be some delay in getting an appointment for those who have applied in consular offices in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. Candidates can apply online for expedited appointments according to the US Embassy website if they want an expedited visa appointment. Those who got selected will be informed via e-mail.
However, these slots are very limited. The US embassy has also stated that the deadline for the visa processing fee payment is being extended up to September 30, 2023.
