US visa delays: IT firms looking at subcontractors

It is well known that the US visa delays are prolonging for years and the Indian IT service providers have now no option but to depend on the subcontractors. COVID-19 pandemic-related closures resulted in a delay in the processing of visas and the authorities are working on minimizing the delay but to no avail. With this IT companies are being forced to depend on subcontractors in global client locations.

The United States issues 85,000 new H1-B visas every year. Tech companies use these for their employees to send to client locations. However, this quota is not enough as several companies have been calling to increase the quota to meet the demand.

According to a study, US tech companies subcontract 18 percent of their requirements which is quite high and adds to the costs. However, the future is bright as the borders opened up and visa availability increases, and the subcontractor costs might come down soon.
