Sri Lankan authorities have finally decided to issue shoot at sight orders as the protests continue to intensify. It reached an all-new level on Tuesday and that propelled the troops to take the extreme step. On Monday, government supporters started to attack the demonstrators in Colombo who was protesting peacefully with sticks and clubs. The violence has seen vehicles and buildings set ablaze. They even tried to storm the PM’s office in Colombo.

Eight people died on Tuesday and more than 230 people have been injured in the protests. The government with no other option has issued shoot at sight orders. The defense ministry had ordered the troops to shoot on sight anyone looting public property or damaging it or causing harm to anyone’s life.

It is said that several Rajapaksa homes were torched and a family museum in their ancestral village was trashed.
