Sita Ramam movie review: Slow-paced period drama

Cast: Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna, Sumanth
Director: Hanu Raghavapudi
Producer: Aswini Dutt
Music: Vishal Chandrasekhar

Dulquer Salman and Mrunal Thakur have played the lead roles in the movie Sita Ramam. Hanu Raghavapudi directed the film and he is so confident about the movie’s result. Let us check out the review.

Story:
Lieutenant Ram (Dulquer Salman) is an orphan. As a result, he never gets any letter. However, a particular mission makes him a hero and he is all over All India Radio. He gets so many letters and there is one particular letter identified by him which was written by Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur) and she calls him her husband.

Cut to many years forward, Afreen (Rashmika) is on a mission to deliver a letter written by Ram to Sita Mahalakshmi. What truths did Afreen find out?

Performances:
Dulquer Salman has excelled in the role of Lieutenant Ram. His screen presence is amazing. His love track with Mrunal is very well executed. His chemistry with her is very good.

Mrunal Thakur surprises us with her acting skills. She looks good onscreen and is a performer. Rashmika Mandanna is decent in her role. Tharun Bhascker complimented well. Vennela Kishore and Sunil’s comedy is not up to the mark. Sumanth’s role is very well designed and the actor impresses in it.

Murali Sharma, Prakash Raj, Priyadarshi, and others haven’t got much to do.

Technicalities:
Technically, Sita Ramam is top-notch. The first to be mentioned is music. Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music is soothing. He transports us to the 60s quite effectively. His background music is worth mentioning as well. The editing could have been crispier. There are a few lag scenes in both the first and second halves. Atleast fifteen minutes from the movie could be chopped off for a better viewing experience. The visuals, particularly the scenes involving the Kashmir Valley are awesome.

Hanu Raghavapudi hasn’t faltered this time. He has taken the second-half syndrome issue seriously and effectively carved out the second half. His love story is poetic. Towards the end, the director has succeeded in bringing out the emotions.

The production values are top-notch.

Analysis:
Sita Ramam is a well-made poetic drama. The team should be commended for making this film. However, Sita Ramam has its own issues. The pace drops considerably in a few places and there are lag scenes in both halves. On the flip side, stunning performances, brilliant technicalities, and poetic way of love narration make Sita Ramam a decent one-time watch.

Rating: 3/5
