Actor cum humanitarian Sonu Sood has a bitter pill to swallow. His sister has lost in the Punjab elections. Malvika, a well-known social worker and sister of Sonu Sood has contested from the Moga constituency in Punjab with a Congress ticket.
Congress had a stronghold over this constituency. It can be termed as their fort. Before this election, Congress has won six times straight starting from 1977 to 2017. However, they had a huge shock now – regarding this constituency and the overall Punjab polls. Aam Aadmi Party swept the polls.
Congress gave the ticket to Malvika after incumbent Congress MLA Harjot Kamal Singh switched loyalties. He jumped to Congress. Malvika has lost the election with a margin of more than 20K votes. Mr. Singh has only managed to get 10K votes overall. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Amandeep Kaur Arora has won the constitution quite comfortably.
