Gunasekhar’s mythological drama Shaakunthalam has turned out to be a total disaster. There are no takers for this big-budget period drama. Shaakunthalam was made with a huge budget of Rs. 50 Crores. The conversion to the 3D format turned out to be more expensive as well. Along with Gunasekhar, Dil Raju invested in the movie.
Shaakunthalam opened to negative reviews on day one and collected only Rs. 5 Crores gross which is an embarrassing number. Furthermore, embarrassment is for Shaakunthalam after the weekend. Even the film failed to post double-digit gross numbers which is a shocking factor.
With the huge budget at stake, the huge numbers will definitely drown the distributors and exhibitors. It is another colossal disaster from Gunasekhar. Surely, he needs to retrospect his filmmaking.
