Gunasekhar’s mythological magnum opus Shaakunthalam has registered shockingly low numbers on day one. The film was released to negative reviews. Samantha played the titular role of Shakunthala. Made on a mammoth budget, the film failed to gain any buzz before its release.
The makers even opted out of the premiers with the negative buzz before the release. Dil Raju who invested in the film planned the strategies for the promotions and they backfired badly. Shaakunthalam was made in 3D upon the suggestion of Dil Raju and it costed them more.
Shaakunthalam with all the negative reviews opened to shockingly low numbers. The film collected Rs. 5 Crores from the Telugu States which is too low for the budget. With the verdict already out and high stakes involved, Shaakunthalam might turn out into a disaster.
