The T20 World Cup is turning interesting. Especially Group B which is termed the group of death is witnessing some unfamiliar results. We have already seen New Zealand beating Australia by a huge margin no one has ever anticipated. Now, Ireland beat England in a rain-interrupted match.
England chose to chase citing the weather conditions. Ireland batted positively. Openers gave them a good start. Captain Balbirine stood in front and scored with positive intent. At the halfway stage, Ireland was 91/2 looking to go over 180 but England pulled back things. Part-time spinner Livingstone picked up three wickets. As a result, Ireland could only make 157.
The score seemed to be a par one. However, England didn’t start on a positive note. Little bagged the wickets of the openers in his successive overs. Malan and Stokes couldn’t up the scoring rate and perished in the process. Moeen Ali gave a few blows but it was late by that time. Ireland won the match by 5 runs (DLS).
With this win, the group is wide open and all six teams had equal chances to the semifinals.
