The first game of IPL 2022 is a one-sided contest. Chennai Super Kings was asked to bat first. The match marks the captaincy debut for Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer representing Kolkata Knight Riders for the first time. Chennai Super Kings started badly. Umesh Yadav bowled a beautiful first spell and scalped the wickets of openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Uthappa hanged there a bit with a decent 28 but he was foxed by Varun Chakravarthy.

Chennai Super Kings managed just 130 runs in the 20 overs which seemed below par but that score is possible because of MS Dhoni. He started in his usual style by defending balls at the start but gave a perfect finish. He scored 50 in just 38 balls. In reply, Kolkata Knight Riders had a positive start. The first wicket fell at 43 runs.

KKR had some low scores as well. But as the score is not so competitive they managed to chase it in 18.3 overs and by losing 4 wickets. Umesh Yadav won the man of the match for his figures of 2 for 20.
