Axar Patel who has attained full fitness has been added to the squad right away. Kuldeep Yadav who has been in the squad for the first test has been released. The left-arm spinner has already joined the squad in the first test where India beat Sri Lanka comprehensively.

While the first of the two tests ended on March 6th, the second will kickstart on March 12th. The release of Kuldeep Yadav came with the fact that the team management believes there is no need for three left-arm spinners in the squad. Ravindra Jadeja is already a prominent candidate in that role.

There are two other spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav in the squad as well. Axar Patel, on the other hand, has been out of action since the Mumbai Test against New Zealand in December. With Axar Patel in the squad, he is likely to replace Jayant Yadav who hasn’t picked a wicket in the first test.
