Australia wins the first test in the Ashes to go 1-0 up against spirited England. This is a memorable win for Australia as they managed to win it by just 2 wickets. Australian captain Pat Cummins and top sinner Nathan Lyon stood there unbeaten and chased the mammoth target of 281. In the first innings, England scored 393 but declared the innings on the first day.
Australia in reply, came close and scored 386, thanks to a brilliant ton by Usman Khawaja. England in their second innings could only score 273 which means Australia was given a target of 281. The chase went down the wire with England taking regular wickets. Usman Khawaja once again starred with a superb half-century. Though there are useful contributions from all around, it was the partnership between Cummins and Lyon that did the job.
Usman Khawaja was adjudged the Man of the Match. The second test will be played in London from 28th June.
