Rating: 1.5/5

Manchu Mohan Babu has played a lead role after a very long time with the movie Son of India. The film is directed by popular writer Diamond Ratnababu. Son of India was released today and let us see how the movie is.

Story:
Virupaksha (Mohan Babu) kidnaps different reputed people in society, a central minister, state’s endowments minister, and a doctor. He challenged National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and now NIA officer Ira is after him. What is the motive of Virupaksha? Why does he kidnap those people and what are his demands?

Performances:
We tend to say the actor carried the film on shoulders at times and Son of India is the perfect example for this. There is Mohan Babu in almost every frame of this film. We can see him throughout the movie. Mohan Babu is a powerful actor and there is no doubt about that. He has emoted well. His dialogue delivery and emotions towards the climax stand out in the movie.

Chiranjeevi’s voice-over is good to hear. There are many known faces in this movie including Srikanth, Sunil, Naresh, Ali, Pragya Jaiswal, etc., However, none have got a role of substantiality. There is no depth in the characters.

Technical aspects:
Diamond Ratnababu has written the story and directed it. He has done decent justice in the first role. The concept is okay and some of the dialogues are thought-provoking. But the execution is where the problem lies. Diamond Ratnababu makes it a painful watch. The idea to showcase only the lead cast throughout the movie failed utterly. The screenplay has many issues and one wonders if the director ever worked on it.

The visuals are shocking. The cinematography is certainly below par. Though the run time is less, the editing looks messy. Ilaiyaraja’s music is OK, so is the background music.

Analysis:
Son of India’s promos has never excited the audiences and it only proves right why. The movie is filled with cliche narration throughout. Though Mohan Babu has tried his best to take forward the film, the narration is where the movie faltered badly. Son of India is definitely a film that should be missed even on the OTT platforms.
