Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs V Muraleedharan in Parliament has revealed the information about the Indians languishing in Jails. According to the information, there are a total of 7,925 Indians that are in jails in different countries. Out of them, 1,663 are in the United Arab Emirates and this is the highest.

The number is followed by Saudi Arabia at 1363 and Nepal at 1039. The other countries in which Indians are in their jails include Pakistan 628, Qatar 466, Kuwait 460, and Malaysia 290. Sri Lanka has 76 Indian prisoners.

V Muraleedharan has said that the numbers are included with those who are in under trials. At the same time, from 2006 to January 2022, around 75 Indian prisoners, were transferred to India to serve their remaining sentences under the 2003 Prisoners Repatriation Act, 2003.

During the recent parliamentary sessions, political leader Syed Zafar Islam asked the Foreign Ministry in the Rajya Sabha how many Indians are languishing in foreign jails and the Ministry of External affairs have revealed the data.
