Congress parliamentary party chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, has today filed her nomination for Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. In Jaipur, she filed her nomination, and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi accompanied her. So far, Sonia Gandhi has served as a Lok Sabha MP. She used to compete from Rae Bareli. She served as the Lok Sabha MP five times so far and it will be the first time that Sonia Gandhi will be entering the upper house.

Congress is sure of winning one Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan and now it will be Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi first contested as Lok Sabha MP in 1999 after taking over as Congress President. The Rajya Sabha elections will be conducted on February 27th. A total of 56 Rajya Sabha members from 15 states are retiring in April.

Everyone thought that Sonia Gandhi would contest again from Lok Sabha. Even the Telangana leaders tried convincing Sonia Gandhi to contest as an MP from their state. However, it didn’t happen.
