Congress MP KC Venugopal has moved a privilege motion in the Rajya Sabha against PM Narendra Modi. He has accused the PM of making objectionable remarks against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

He wrote in a tweet, “Such objectionable statements have no place in Parliament.” He has written in the motion that the remarks made against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are their ‘breach of privilege and contempt of the House’.

“I hereby give notice of a question of privilege against the Prime Minister of India under Rule 188 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Council of States (Rajya Sabha) for having cast reflections upon Members of Parliament during his reply to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s Address on February 9, 2023,” said Venugopal in the letter.

Venugopal referred to the PM’s statement in which he had said, “What a shame in keeping the Nehru surname.”

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Nehru-Gandhi family over a large number of schemes named after its members and asked why they are “scared of keeping the Nehru surname”

Venugopal wrote that the PM knew very well that after marriage the daughter does not use her father’s name. Despite this, he joked.

For the last few days, BJP has been demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. At the same time, the Congress is claiming that Rahul Gandhi is not being given a chance to speak in Parliament.

The BJP alleges that Rahul has insulted India’s Parliament and democracy with his statements abroad.
