With incessant rains in the district, the Godavari water level at Bhadrachalam has been increasing alarmingly. It is known that there have been heavy rains for the past few days in the upper catchment area. The water level at Bhadrachalam was 39.50 feet at 8 AM and reached 41.60 feet by 12 noon.
The authorities predict that the water level will increase to the first warning level of 43 feet in the day. Following the heavy rains, many streams are overflowing. District Collector Anudeep Durishetty issued a statement today that the people living on the banks of Godavari should be alert, and so are the officials.
Control rooms have been set up at Collectorate with the number 08744-241950 and at the Bhadrachalam sub collector’s office with a dialing number: 08743-232444. He called the people to dial the numbers in case of emergency. SP Dr. Vineeth G cautioned the farmers while operating the irrigation pumps and called people to be alert and not touch any electrical poles.
