The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government is trying to privatize assets and government institutions. It says that the proceeds will be used for the development of infrastructure in the country. We have seen some of the giant companies privatized.
The central government has shortlisted the famous Vizag steel plant for privatization. Protests are pouring in to stop it. The central government is stating that the Vizag steel plant is facing huge losses and this is the reason for the privatization.
Recently, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh will privatize Vijayawada, Tirupati, and Rajamahendravaram airports. Though Tirupati Airport is making good profits when compared to others. For the Vizag steel plant, the Center said it is privatizing the assets, to reduce the burden of the failed firms. But it is said that the Tirupati airport is seeing profits and it is almost Rs. 200 Crores every year.
