India on Friday became the third country in the world to cross the terrible 5 lakh mark death toll due to COVID. The COVID third wave is alarming in the country currently with the death toll increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 1,072 deaths were reported. The total now stands at 5,00,055, although some experts say that the actual number is much higher.
India has crossed the 4-lakh mark in July last year at the time of the deadly Delta variant. It took 217 days for the nation to cross another 1-lakh mark. USA stands at the top in this unfamous list with 9.1 lakh COVID deaths. Brazil is in second place with 6.3 lakh deaths. Russia and Mexico follow the list with 3.3 lakh and 3.1 lakh deaths respectively.
In India, Maharashtra tops the list with 1,42,859 deaths followed by Kerala (56,701), Karnataka (39,197). The official numbers state that the total COVID infections stand at 4.195 Cr.
