The 2023 first half is done. With six months completed, here is the half-yearly report of Tollywood. For the first big season of Tollywood, Sankranthi, two massive films Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya, and Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy got released. Both the films ended up being money spinners.
Dhanush’s SIR is another super hit for Tollywood this year. Dil Raju’s Balagam is a surprise hit for sure. This movie raked in good profits, especially in Nizam. Nani’s Dasara is another movie that did well in Nizam. It was an average movie in AP. Vishwak Sen’s Das Ka Dhamki opened well but fizzled out later. Sai Dharam Tej’s Virupaksha was another huge hit in the first half. In fact, it was the only big hit in Summer this year.
The lack of big releases this Summer turned out to be a disastrous move for Tollywood with all the distributors struggling big time. Among the dubbed films, despite the negative reviews, Bichagadu 2 was a profitable venture for the distributors.
Other films like Amigos, Ranga Maarthanda, Shaakunthalam, Anni Manchi Shakunamule, Ravanasura, Meter, Agent, Ramabanam, Ugram, Custody, Adipurush, and others failed badly at the box office.
