India failed to manage a win in the ODI series. In a hope to salvage a win in the ODI series, India made four changes in the match. Jayant Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna come in place of Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Venkatesh Iyer, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The change didn’t change the fate but India didn’t go down fighting.

India has won the toss and elected to field. Unlike in the previous ODIs, India has taken early wickets. Deepak Chahar picked one and another got in the form of a runout. For the first time, India has taken two quick wickets in a long time. However, Quinton De Kock played splendid innings from one end and he was ably supported by Rassie. Quinton and Rassie completed a century and a half-century before they were departed. With the support from Miller and Phehlukwayo South Africa managed to score 287.

With the record chasing of 288, India started with a hiccup. KL Rahul fell in the fifth over. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli stitched almost a century partnership before the former fell. Rishabh Pant played another rash shot and got out on the first ball. Virat Kohli failed again to score his 71st century. Without the heroics of Deepak Chahar, the match could have ended very early. But he made 54 in 34 balls to make it to the last over. However, India fell short by 4 runs and handed the clean sweep to SA.
