Tennis legend Roger Federer has announced his retirement from competitive tennis. He made a formal announcement on his social media handles. His decision will come into effect after participating in the Laver Cup 2022. Federer is the first men’s player to win 20 grand slam titles. His first grand slam came in the year 2003 when he won Wimbledon. Since then, there is no looking back for him as he won 6 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 8 Wimbledon, and 5 US Open titles in his illustrative career.

Federer wrote, “The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event.” Roger Federer has been struggling with a knee injury for a long time and despite surgeries, the injury is not fully recovered.

“The past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I have worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career,” he wrote in the statement.
