The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup has officially moved out of Sri Lanka. However, the hosting rights are still with Sri Lanka. The matches will be played in the UAE. The decision was made after a deliberate attempt by the ICC but the ongoing political turmoil in Sri Lanka was forced to make the move by the cricket’s governing body.

The tournament will be played in the T20 format and the schedule goes as per the original chalked-out plan between August 27 and September 11.

Asian Cricket Council has released a statement regarding this. “Considering the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka, the ACC after extensive deliberation has unanimously concluded that it would be appropriate to relocate the tournament from Sri Lanka to UAE,” read the official statement. The last edition of the Asia Cup was hosted by UAE as well in the year 2018. India won the tournament that was played in the ODI format.
