Cast Ajith Kumar, Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, and others

Director – H Vinodh

Producer – ZEE Studios & Boney Kapoor

Music – Ghibran

Ajith Kumar is back with another flick titled Thegimpu. The trailer looks promising. Ajith’s character has grey shades. Let us check out the review.

Story:

An unknown gang plans to loot a bank for Rs. 500 Crores and tries to implement it. However, Dark Devil (Ajith Kumar) is there in the bank as well and he plans a bigger loot. There is a motive behind his bank loot plan. What is it? What happens to the looted money forms the crux of the story.

Performances:

Ajith’s styling suits well the character he played. His character has grey shades. While in the first half, he was seen as an anti-hero, the second half is totally in contrast. Ajith is impressive in both shades.

Manju Warrier will be there throughout and she does some action as well. However, her character isn’t etched well. Samuthirakani is good in the honest Police Commissioner role. Ajay does well for what he was offered. Others are just fine despite half-baked characters.

Technicalities:

H. Vinodh tried a money heist kinda dark action entertainer including all the masala elements. His attempt should be appreciated but the way he dealt is quite mediocre. Everything turns uninteresting after a point in this crime thriller. The motive of the hero lacks conviction. The audience will not connect to his emotion.

Ghibran’s background score is effective though the scenes are not so. Nirav Shah’s visuals are appealing. The editing could have been better so are the production values with the fact that most of the story happens inside a bank. The writing lacks depth and it is the first villain.

Analysis:

Though Thegimpu concentrates on bank fraud and white-collar crimes, there is no effectiveness in portraying the subject. Overall, the film will end up as a mediocre attempt.
