Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi movie review – Disappointment

Starring: Naga Shaurya, Malvika Nair, Srinivas Avasarala, and others

Director: Srinivas Avasarala

Producers: T G Vishwa Prasad and Padmaja Dasari

Music Director: Kalyani Malik

Naga Shourya and Srinivas Avasarala are a sensible combination. They worked earlier on the films Oohalu Gusagusalaade and Jyo Achyutananda. Now, this time Srinivas Avasarala picked another light-hearted humor with the title Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi. The film was released strangely with a little buzz. Let us have a look at the review.

Story:

Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi is all about the journey of Sanjay (Naga Shourya) and Anupama (Malavika Nair). They become friends at college though Anupama was a year senior. The rest of the story is all about their friendship, how it turns to love, how they get separated, and what happens at the end… over the years.

Performances:

Naga Shourya is a sensible actor. Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi proves that once again. He suits well for the romantic genre. He sports various looks as per the role ages and looks good in every look. He is particularly good at emotional sequences.

Malavika Nair is a natural performer. She smoothly blends into the character Anupama. She is equally good in light-hearted moments and emotional sequences as well. The lead pair chemistry is one of the plus points. The others are just okay.

Technicalities:

The music by Kalyani Malik is decent. The songs carry a nostalgic feel and light-hearted moments. However, the melodies will stay. The BGM is good too. The cinematography is alright and the editing is just okay.

The sync sound tried for the film totally disappoints. It comes as a major drawback. Whoever came up with this idea had to take the total blame.

Analysis:

Srinivas Avasarala is known for his writing apart from his acting. This time he tried to narrate a simple story in a complex way which backfired. Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi which was narrated in seven chapters creates unnecessary confusion. Also, the sound quality and DI look completely pale.

There are some bright moments here and there in the movie. However, they were not sufficient to make it a memorable film like Oohalu Gusagusalade. PAPA is far distant from this.

Rating: 2.25/5
