Rating: 2.75/5

Mega hero Varun Tej’s latest movie Ghani is a boxing drama. The movie has gained decent momentum with its promos. Debutante Kiran Korrapati has directed the movie which got released today. Let us see how the film is.

Story:
Vikramaditya is a champion boxer but his image is stained with allegations that he used steroids. Ghani, his son wanted to prove a point. He wants to become a champion. However, Ghani’s mother (Nadiya) is completely against Ghani becoming a boxer. He gets trained without her knowledge.

How Ghani takes things forward forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Varun Tej has given a sincere effort as a boxer, Ghani. His hard work and dedication towards taking up the role are evident. He gets the right physique. His hard training in the sport has helped him portray the character with conviction. In the acting department, Varun does a decent job as well.

Saiee Manjrekar is making her Telugu debut with this movie. However, her role hasn’t got much importance. She comes in the first half and has blink and miss role in the second half. In Whatever role she got, Saiee impresses.

Ghani has a stellar star cast of Suniel Shetty, Upendra, Jagapathi Babu, and Naveen Chandra. All of them have got decent roles and they did their best.

Technicalities:
After hitting the prime form, this could be SS Thaman’s weakest work. His songs are just about okay. Except for the title track, no song can find a place in his heart. His background music is just okayish. However, he is loud at times. Cinematography is done by George C. Williams and he has done his best. Editing is okay. The production values are top-notch.

Debutante Kiran Korrapati has picked up a routine revenge sports drama. However, he made sure in getting up the right emotions in the right places. The narration could have been a lot better.

Analysis:
Kiran Korrapati must be commended for not deviating from the core plot. However, he could have taken more care in the proceedings. The movie goes in a template format. Performances are one of the biggest plus points of the movie. Overall, Ghani is a routine sports revenge drama. Can be watched once if you have nothing to do this weekend.
