ET movie review – Passable action drama

Cast: Suriya, Priyanka Mohan, Vinay Rai, Satyaraj, etc.,
Director: Pandiraj
Music Director: D. Imman
Production House: Sun Pictures
Cinematographer: Rathnavel

After a gap of more than 2 years, Suriya’s movie is finally hitting the theaters. Suriya’s previous two projects Aakasham Nee Haddura, Jai Bhim have been received huge accolades from all quarters, and generally, the buzz is high around the movie ET, Evariki Talavanchadu. Directed by Pandiraj, let us see how the movie is.

Story:
Krishna Mohan (Suriya) is a lawyer who stays with his family and enjoys every moment of his life. He resides in a village and he falls for Priyanka who is from the neighboring village. These two villages have some issues to deal with. While this is one aspect, Krishna Mohan comes to know about a heinous crime that is carried out on women.

Krishna Mohan gets disturbed byET these crimes and decides to take over. He has to confront Kamesh (Vinay Rai), a politically influencing personality.

What are the consequences when Krishna Mohan is after Kamesh?

Performances:
Suriya once again has carried the whole film on his shoulders. He is the main attraction of ET. His performance in action blocks is superb. He has once again picked up the socially responsible character. After Jai Bhim, he has again played a lawyer and there is a contrast difference between the portrayal of these characters which shows the versatility of Suriya.

Priyanka Mohan gets a crucial role in the movie. She has done a decent job with her lovely screen presence. There are some crucial scenes in the movie in which she performed well.

Vinay Rai plays his negative role confidently. Particularly, his confrontation scenes with Suriya have come out really well. But Vinay should take in picking up the roles as he is getting the similar roles he has played in the past as a creepy, no-emotion baddie.

Satyaraj and Saranya are fine in their respective roles. They are alright. The rest of the cast have done their jobs well.

Technicalities:
The writing by Pandiraj could be taken in two ways. It is a routine masala family drama. At the same time, he has interlaced it with a social message. The family drama, romantic track are routine but passable. The second half takes off and it is a rollercoaster ride for the audience. The melodrama in the second half sometimes seems over the board.

D. Imman is known for composing music for village dramas. However, he has done just an okay job. His songs are okay. The placement of the songs comes as a plus point. The background music is loud at times but worthy. His BGM is effective in the second half. Rathnavel is the cinematographer of the movie. It is alright. But the lensman has set the standards high that this work couldn’t reach that level.

Editing should have been crisper. The production values are superb.

Analysis:
ET is a routine drama with mass masala elements along with a social message interlaced with it. Those who love Suriya will definitely like the movie and for the neutral audience, ET is a passable drama. Overall, ET might not reach the expectations but can be watched once for the reasons mentioned above.

Rating: 2.75/5
