In an extremely saddening incident, a total of 11 people including 2 children were electrocuted to death in Tamil Nadu‘s Tanjavur. Going into the details, In the Kalimedu town of Tanjavur district, a temple festival is being carried on. The 94th Appar Gurupoojai was celebrated on April 26. A large crowd gathered on the streets.

A giant chariot is being pulled through the streets as a part of the ritual. At the time, an electric wire got entangled in the chariot and while the devotees tried to set the wire right, it resulted in instant electrocution. All the 11 people died on the spot and several people were injured. The injured were immediately admitted to Tanjavur medical college.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin have condolence the deceased and compensation has been announced to the families of the victims.

PMO India tweeted, “Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the mishap in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM”.
