Supreme Court orders stay on AP HC’s orders on Amaravati issue

The Apex court of India today issued a crucial judgment regarding the 3 capitals issue in Andhra Pradesh. Supreme Court today stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s order in which it directed the Andhra Pradesh government to implement the Amaravati master plan. It also ordered all the developmental activities to continue in Amaravati. In other words, Supreme Court ordered the AP government to go with Amaravati as the capital for the state.

The top court has only relieved the government from deadlines ordered by High Court which on March 3rd ordered the state government to develop the Capital city and the Capital region within six months. In September, the Andhra Pradesh government filed a petition in Supreme Court seeking a stay on High Court’s orders.

However, the Supreme Court hasn’t fully agreed with what the petitioners said.
