In what could be called a surprise move, the Andhra Pradesh government has transferred the Police boss, the Director-General of Police (DGP) Gautham Sawang. The government has already picked the replacement. IPS officer Kasireddy VRN Reddy has been named as his successor.
Gautham Sawang was posted as DGP in May 2019, soon after YSRCP came into power. There were speculations that Sawang was in favor of the ruling party. But the government has always backed the DGP. However, this comes as a surprise that he has been transferred and his term was short-lived. He was supposed to continue in the post till July 2023.
Kasireddy VRN Reddy belongs to the 1992 batch and he has worked as Police Commissioner in both Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam. He is currently serving as the Director-General of Police (Intelligence). Until further notice, Kasireddy has been placed in a full additional charge of the post of Director General of Police. Gautham Sawang was asked to report to the General Administration Department for further posting.
