In what could be considered a huge setback to the Andhra Pradesh government, the High Court today issued a stay over the construction of the houses in the R5 zone. The three-member High Court bench comprising Justice DVSS Somayajulu, Justice CH Manavendranath Rai, and Justice Ravinath Tilhari have passed the interim orders. The High Court has faulted the AP government’s efforts to take up the construction of houses for the poor in the name of the R5 zone in the area mentioned as the electronic city in the Amaravati master plan.

During the petition hearing, the High Court opined that the Supreme Court clearly mentioned that only the distribution of house titles to the poor in the Amaravati region would be subject to the orders of the High Court.

On the other hand, the AP government started the construction of 50,000 houses in Amaravati last month. Around 50,000 poor people from Amaravati and Guntur cities have been granted house titles.
