World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for Europe Hans Henri Kluge has stated that at least 15,000 succumbed to death due to the hot weather in Europe. Among these 4,000 deaths were recorded in Spain alone. More than 3,200 deaths in the United Kingdom were stated. 4,500 deaths in Germany and 1,000 deaths in Portugal happened.

Kluge said that more countries are yet to report on the deaths due to heat waves which means that the number will be increased. He said in a statement that Europe is the fastest-warming nation in the world. In the past 50 years, more than 1,50,000 lives were lost due to the excessive heat wave. According to the studies, Europe is witnessing a 0.5-degree increase in temperature every 10 years.

The three months from June to August this year is the hottest since the records began, Kluge said.
